When students arrive in September they will see preparation for the foundation and floor as well as trenches for various utilities. Soon thereafter, we’ll see the gymnasium go up. We want to thank the Waldorf family and our Board for supporting this project. Watch for more news about opening day festivities.

I hope you’ve had an enjoyable summer thus far and I look forward to seeing you at the Rose Ceremony on Wednesday, September 9th. High School School begins Tuesday, Sept 7th. Go to high school section for more information. Lower School School begins Wednesday, September 8th. Grades 1-8 begin at 8:10am. Important→ Please click here for "Lower School Attendance Policy" and general school info. The Rose ceremony begins at 8:15am. All are welcome to attend this very special ceremony. High school seniors welcome their special friend to the first grade with a rose. This will be followed by a Welcome Tea in the WISC Room. All parents are invited! Early Childhood Center School begins Thursday, September 9th. Plan to arrive by 8:00am and no later than 8:15am. Please stay for a "Welcome Tea" and meet fellow parents. Dear High School Parents and Students, Welcome to all new and returning students to the school year 2009/2010. With a high school enrollment of 95 students, we are looking forward to an exciting school year. The high school begins on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. The following is the schedule for Tuesday: 8:00 – 9:00 The 9th grade: will be given questions to answer about their two assigned books, To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye, rather than writing book reports. Some questions will require short answers others will involve responding by writing a paragraph. Meet in room 12. 9:00 - 10:00 The 9th grade, new 10th and 11th grade students: meet in room 12 for high school orientation. 9:00 – 10:00 The 12th grade students: meet with the Leadership Team and Advisory Council. ======================================================================
10:00 - 11:00 Returning 10th & 11th grade students arrive. All high school students meet in the Eurythmy room to sign up for elective classes. ======================================================================
11:00 – 3:30 The whole high school travels by bus to Zuma Beach. (Be sure to bring lunch and water (snack bars not open), towels, hat, sunscreen, boogie board (no surfboards). On Wednesday, September 9th, high school starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:10 p.m. (Remember to bring a lunch, school supplies and a pen, pencil, notebook, paper, etc.) The Rose ceremony takes place on this day in the center courtyard, where the twelfth grade welcomes the first grade to the school. Permission to drive onto campus is a privilege that Highland Hall may revoke at any time in its sole discretion. Off Campus Lunch Procedure
1. The Privilege of going off campus for lunch will apply to the high school and will only be applicable during the lunch period: 12:15 – 12:55 p.m. Students are not permitted to leave campus any other time. Off campus lunch is limited to only Thursdays at this time.
2. The sponsor will take the responsibility of implementing and enforcing the procedures. However, this will only work with the cooperation of all of the students.
3. Each student who wishes to go off campus for lunch must sign the revised lunch contract form, as must their parents, acknowledging that they have read and understand these procedures.
4. It is the responsibility of the student to keep track of their off campus privileges when it has been revoked and not to go off campus during these times.
5. Our off campus policy is a WALK-OFF policy only. Student need to walk east on Superior and North on Paso Robles to get to the restaurants and return in the same way. Students may not drive their own cars or ride in cars driven by other students.
6. Students must be back on campus NO LATER than 12:55 p.m. It is their responsibility to be in class on time at 1:00 p.m. Students unable to meet this responsibility jeopardize the privilege of leaving campus for the entire student body.
7. The privilege of leaving campus for lunch will be revoked on an individual basis if a student is involved in any of the following:
a) Irresponsible conduct on or off campus that would jeopardize the image of the school or students.
b) Excessive tardiness to any class.
c) Three tardies per quarter at the 1:00 p.m. class time
d) Bringing food back to campus for a child who is in the lower grades (K-8).
e) Being sent out of class. If a student is sent out of class, off campus lunch will be revoked for one week.
f) Missing two clean up times.
8. This privilege can be revoked by the high school faculty at any time should it appear that it is not working smoothly and /or properly.
9. Students who are scheduled to meet with a teacher or counselor during lunch will need to bring their lunch on that day.

In order to obtain off campus lunch privileges, each student must complete this form and turn it in to their sponsors for review.
1. You will not take part in any form of substance use during school hours.
2. You will show respect to all others you encounter and understand that your individual actions represent Highland Hall as a whole. (Don’t litter, respect the pupils of surrounding schools.) Students need to walk east on Superior and North on Paso Robles to get to the restaurants and return in the same way.
3. You will return to your 1:00 class promptly on time. (Three tardies will lead to a suspension of your off campus privileges for an amount of time specified by your class sponsor).
4. You will take it upon yourself to enforce these rules with your friends, understanding that their missteps can and will result in the loss of this privilege for everyone. (This is most important!)
5. Your contract must be approved and signed by your sponsor and legal guardian and can be revoked by either at anytime.
6. You must do your clean-up job every day in order to obtain off campus privileges. (Two missed clean-up times will lead to a suspension of your off campus privileges for an amount of time specified by your class sponsor).

If you are granted permission to go off campus during the lunch hour and fail to abide by these rules (predominantly #1), your contract will be suspended for at least a year and then reinstatement of your privileges will be left entirely up to your sponsors and the high school faculty.
Highland Hall Athletics
This up-coming fall season, the high school will be offering co-ed soccer and girls' volleyball as competitive sports in which students are welcomed to participate in. The season consists of practices and games. Practices take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Most games are played on these days. Game times vary.
The first practice for both soccer and volleyball will take place on Tuesday, August 25. The soccer team will meet on campus on the field and the volleyball will meet at Stonehurst Recreation Center located at 9901 Dronfield Ave. Sun Valley, 91352. No transportation is available to Stonehurst until school begins.
Practices for 8/25, 8/27, 8/28, 8/31, 9/1 and 9/3 are from 3:30-5:00 for soccer and from 2:00- 4:00 for volleyball (No practice on Fri 9/4 or Mon 9/7)

Before you make a decision to participate, the following must be considered.
· A participation fee of $120.00 will be billed to the family. Checks are made out to Highland Hall. Do not hand checks to the coach. The business office will bill parents
· Commit to attend practices and games. Players are evaluated and given a letter grade.
· Players must meet all requirements set forth by the coach.
· Playing time is at the discretion of the coach.
· Players will be required to wear appropriate attire and shoes.
