What is the Highland Hall Social, and what does it mean?
The Highland Hall Social is an evening filled with food, merriment and dancing! The word ‘social’ is an adjective, meaning “seeking or enjoying the companionship of others; friendly, sociable, gregarious.”
How do I know if I am ‘Friendly’, ‘Sociable’, or ‘Gregarious’?
You are.
What is the purpose of the Highland Hall Social?
The Highland Hall Social has four main purposes:
1. To say hello to old friends and new families.
2. To feast on fabulous cuisine.
3. To dance the night away to the incredible sounds of the Ollin band.
4. To kick-up our heels to kick-off the Capital Campaign.
Will I be solicited for a donation?
No.
I’ve already said hello to my old friends.
Coming back to school after the summer break is an exciting time! It seems fresh and new for most. Unfortunately, it can also be hectic. The Highland Hall Social gives us all a place where we can take some quality time and hang out with friends we haven’t seen for the entire summer, or maybe we have just been racing too quickly from here to there to really take a moment to relax with each other. It is also a wonderful opportunity to make friends with new families in the school.
Where have I heard the Ollin band perform, and how do you pronounce their name?
You may have seen one of them right here at Highland Hall! Kurt MacInnis played at several May Faires to rousing crowds! Now even more of the Ollin (o-LEEN) band will be with us for the Highland Hall Social! Ollin has opened for Los Lobos, Lucinda Williams, Ozomatli, Black Eyed Peas, Quetzal, Culture Clash, War and The Pogues. They have promised to bring us some of their amazing original tunes as well as some oldies and not-so-oldies! The dance floor will be hopping!
What is the Capital Campaign?
The Building Tomorrow Today capital campaign is the conduit by which Highland Hall’s current and future children will receive a relevant and transformative education in an ever-evolving, forward looking institution. A tremendous amount of progress has already been made…all you have to do is look at the lower school classrooms and high school office renovations to see what we mean. The campaign is also focusing on a new performance theater and a new science building – both of which will benefit the children for many years to come.
