Indigenous Peoples Day

What
Indigenous Peoples Day
When
10/13/2016

On October 10, grades 1-8 will celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day at Highland Hall. Our intention is to provide a broader perspective of our local history and affirm the incredible legacy of the indigenous people who lived in the North American continent long before Europeans arrived. Children will be exposed to the rich wisdom and beautiful perspective of reverence for the earth that is the basis of tribal belief.

A short assembly in the morning will feature a storyteller from one of our local tribes followed by a delicious snack of native black popcorn. While our local tribes did not grow corn, the children in the third grade have grown this variety on our farm at Highland Hall, which is a fitting snack dating back at least 8,000 years.
