The Parent & Child Program at Highland Hall offers a nurturing environment for parents to spend a relaxed and joyful morning with their toddler aged children, a skilled teacher and other families. The gentle rhythm of the day incorporates singing, a healthy snack and possibilities for the children to experience free play time in our enchanted early childhood garden and classroom. The warm and inviting play space includes beautiful and natural handmade toys and has been created to support sensory development and integration, gross and fine motor skills, as well as language and social skills…all foundations for later learning through the grades.
Parents are invited to come together to be a part of a supportive community with opportunities to discuss the joys, challenges and questions regarding family life with young children. With the guidance and demonstrations from the teacher, the importance and benefits of attentive observation are cultivated and explored. The Parent and Child Program is designed to nourish parents’ loving relationship with their child.
The classes are taught by Elizabeth Shahbazi who has an MS in Educational Psychology and over thirty years experience teaching young children and working with families. Mrs. Shahbazi’s work is based on the principles of Waldorf Education, the teachings of Magda Gerber, founder of RIE™, and the work of Dr. Emmi Pikler.
