During the tenth grade, Jesse Hinkle, class of 2013, decided to ride the wave of his booming surfing career and devote his time and attention to it full time.
Niv Ashkenzi, Highland Hall alumnus and Julliard graduate, was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center on December 3, 2012 in honor of the 2012 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Highland Hall Alumnus, Michael D. Carrasco, Ph.D., class of '91, was among a group of researchers to win a three year grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to study ancient settlements in Meso America. Michael is an assistant professor of pre-Columbian art and architecture in the Department of Art History at Florida State University. "My education at Highland Hall has been a critical foundation for my academic work, teaching, and how I approach the world."
Nicole Aronson, class of 2003, appeared on the cover of the July 2012 issue of ArtLA Magazine. The magazine featured Nicole in an interview, describing her as "one of the most creative emerging artists of our times." Nicole attended Highland Hall for high school and learned much about art while she was there. She had the opportunity to take courses such as basket weaving, stained glass, veil painting, and bookbinding. Her favorite class while at Highland Hall was watercolor, taught by Dana Williams. Nicole continued her studies at University of Southern California, receiving a B.A. in Fine Arts in 2007. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
You might be interested to know that many of our alumni have careers in scientific fields. Ryan van Schilfgaarde, class of 2005 is now working as a mechanical engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratories in Pasadena CA. After graduating from Colorado College with a degree in Physics, Ryan went on to USC and received his masters in Mechanical Engineering. Ryan spends his free time sailing, skiing, motorcycle riding and is not currently pursuing anything remotely artistic!
Congratulations to Shaina Mote, class of 2006! Her women's fashion designs were on New York runways, dazzling audiences and getting rave reviews. Shaina was recently featured in the GenArts' Fresh Faces In Fashion. Congratulations to Eve Neuhart, class of 2011, on her acceptance to the London Dramatic Academy for Fall 2013. Eve is currently studying drama and photography at Bennington College and will be interning at the Metropolitan Playhouse in New York City this winter. A "lifer," Eve honed her thespian talents during her many performances at Highland Hall including the musical, The Pajama Game, pictured here with Brennan Yack.
