Why do I choose Waldorf Education?

Waldorf Education is unique in how deeply music is incorporated into the everyday life and curriculum of students as they develop throughout their schoolyears.  For me, it is a fantastic opportunity to engage students in the common language of music as we share skills and inspiration.

Dana Howell joins the Highland Hall faculty after serving for seven fruitful years as a church music director and grade school teacher, directing bands, choirs, weekly liturgies and seasonal concerts.  He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University (BFA Clarinet Performance and Composition), San Francisco Conservatory (MM in Composition) and UCLA (PhD in Music Composition).  As a performer, he played in the Westmoreland Symphony, numerous chamber groups and currently Contemporary Los Angeles Winds.  As a composer, he has written for band, orchestra, choir and various ensembles, and recently composed several musical theater shows and short operas.  For Dana, education completes the circle of creativity and is an essential part of a musical life.  He looks forward to working with the students and families at Highland Hall and continuing a rich life of teaching, collaborating and sharing musical treasures.
