Ariel Sortun, Lower School Class Teacher

Ms. Sortun has been teaching since 1998. Her early teaching was with kindergarten and nursery aged children. Trained in the Reggio Emilia approach, she cared for young children and led professional development courses for other teachers for nine years. She first met Waldorf Education in 2009, and participated in a teacher training program at Ocean Charter, a Waldorf-inspired charter school in Southern California. She subsequently began formal training at Rudolf Steiner College and received her certification in 2017. Most recently she has served at the Tacoma Waldorf School as a second grade main lesson teacher and substitute in a variety of lower school grades. Ms. Sortun has a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Early Childhood from Pacific Oaks College.

 

The use of art to support student development of small and large motor skills, creative expression and social dynamics is a particular area of interest for Ariel. She has taught previously as an art studio teacher, art camp teacher, and workshop coordinator for parents and their young children.
