Lecture Topic:  "So what is common about any child? Understanding the importance of freedom and courage in education in light of the Common Core state standards."

Patrice will help us to understand the Waldorf school vision for a future of creative thinking people and an approach to education that unlocks the gift of every young human being. She will speak about common fears engendered by the current trends in testing and standardization.

Patrice's Background:  Patrice is the director of Waldorf publications for the Research Institute for Waldorf Education (RIWE), she has worked as a leader in AWSNA for nine years, was a class and music teacher at the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School in upstate New York for thirteen years, and before that helped to found the Merriconeag Waldorf School in Freeport, Maine, and is the proud mother of three Waldorf graduates.  She has recently made a study of the Common Core state standards (hoping for extra points in heaven for reading them!) and is a member of the Avalon Initiative, a think tank pursuing freedom, funding, and ethical accountability for Waldorf Education.
