SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD'S IMMUNE SYSTEM

The Key to Healthy Development

A workshop with Wiep de Vries, Anthroposophical Nurse

Deepening the awareness of the significance of childhood illnesses can lead to a new approach to healing in which the child is gently being guided and supported through the process of illness.

Wiep will address the beneficial aspects of fever and offer practical suggestions for natural remedies and therapeutic applications, such as compresses, wraps, poultices and inhalations.

She will also focus in particular on ear infections, chest congestion, asthma, and digestive disturbances.

Workshop Participants will:

·         Attain a deeper knowledge about the role of childhood diseases from a holistic, developmental perspective.

·         Be empowered and feel confident in taking responsibility for the care of a sick child.

·         Learn to create a healing environment for a sick child, and have insight into healing measures that can prevent the occurrence of chronic illness.

·         Learn practical ways to guide a child through the process of illness, applying herbal wraps and compresses, and using herbal and homeopathic remedies.

Wiep de Vries, R.N. has worked for six years in The Netherlands as an Anthroposophical Nurse at a small hospital.

From 1996 till 2004 she has conducted Home Health Care workshops for the Waldorf schools throughout Southern California. For 7 years she has been the director of The Los Angeles Alliance for Childhood (LAAC),  a parent education organization and resource and referral center, that offered programs advocating practical methods to address the developmental needs of young children.  Currently Wiep is working as a pain relief therapist specialized in Neuro-Soma Muscle Therapy.

Anthroposophically extended medicine is a holistic and human-centered approach to medicine, adding to modern medicine the knowledge of the laws of the living organism, of the psyche and the spirit. Illness is being expressed in every person in a very individual way. Remedies are chosen on the basis of understanding the link between the process of illness and the characteristics of certain substances in nature. Complementary therapies have been developed according these insights, like therapeutic eurythmy, sculpture, painting, music and speech therapy, rhythmical massage, hydrotherapy, external therapies, and psychological counseling.
