Observing Unity Day

What
Observing Unity Day
When
10/23/2019

A day focused on bullying prevention for all children. Highland Hall observed Unity Day for the first time last year and are doing so again, in a bigger way, this year! Faculty and staff supporting this event will be wearing orange and students in grades 1-12 will be observing the event in various ways including decorating a tree near the main office with messages of inclusion, acceptance, and kindness, creating orange buttons with positive messages on them, wearing orange shirts, accessories, etc.

The Early Childhood Center will continue their work as usual. In these early years, seeds of kindness, acceptance and social inclusion are embedded in the curriculum not as an intellectual concept, but as an act of doing. A young child’s direct experience of the world as safe and good cultivates a feeling of connection, belonging and interest. As they grow and develop, this emerges in the students as an independent interest in the ‘other’ and a desire to cultivate a community of respect and acceptance.

We invite parents who would like to join in observance of Unity Day this Wednesday to wear something orange. Here's to supporting inclusion, kindness, and acceptance!
